I was wondering whether K remembered what I'd taught her about addition and subtraction of negative numbers. So, I asked, "K, what's 3 take away 5?"

"You'd have to dig two holes," she said (we represent negative numbers as holes you have to dig.).

I said, "That's my girl!"

She declared triumphantly, "I'm OBSESSED with math!"
