Well, as always, the quotes from K are piling up! So, before my brain overflows, here are the ones I can remember from lately.
We were at the Zoo last week, and, while eating lunch, we heard a grandmother uttering a feeble protest as her toddler grandson equally feebly stumbled past us. "Stop... Stop running!," she said, as she more or less slowly ambled behind him. I wouldn't call what he was doing "running," either. But, anyway, within about 8 steps, he did stop. As they passed us, Kirienne turned to me and said, "What part of 'STOP' did he not understand?" When I started laughing, she asked, "Mom, why are you laughing?" -- I think it was the first time she ever noticed or cared that I was laughing in response to something she'd said. I said, "I'm laughing because that's what we always say to YOU! And you repeated it just like you've heard it many times."
The other day, out of the blue, K said, "Mom... 'diabolical' means 'very bad'. Taken aback, I said, "Yes, yes it does. Where did you learn that?" "From my Alice and Gretta book," she responded. We've only read that a dozen times, but I guess I never paid attention to that particular word. She did, though!
Last Thursday morning, an informercial for some weightloss product was playing, in which they asked, "Do you have excess body fat?" K looked at me and said, tenderly, "Mommy, you don't have any body fat!" I laughed and said, "Well, yes, actually, I do, but you sure don't!" Later on -- about 8 hours later, in fact, we were at a reunion of friends of mine from my job 10 years ago. Apropos of nothing, K said, "Mommy! I don't have any body fat!" Hah! "Nope, still don't have any," I assured her.
Today, I was refilling the containers that hold our catfood. When I was done, I plunged the cat food scoop down into the food bucket, like I was embeding it. K said, "Mom, are you pretending that's a mole chaser [like the little battery-powered wands we put in the ground to keep the moles out of our garden]?" I laughed because I could immediately see where she drew that parallel.
That's about it for now. I know there were 3 or 4 other funny things, but you just can't catch them all and keep them!
