Who's the boss?

Most of the time, I know what the answer to this question is supposed to be. But I think it never really crosses K's mind as to who the boss is... it's her, of course!

So, driving home from school today, I told her that I have an appointment to go to tomorrow and that, if she's really good and quiet, I will take her to Chik-fil-A afterward. 

She said, "OK, so next time [translation: tomorrow] we can listen to music on the way there and NPR on the way home, OK?"

Because I like to listen to NPR in the a.m., I said, "Well, actually, we're going to listen to NPR on the way there and we can listen to music on the way home."

She said, "No! That is not the plan. I made the plan and that is not the way we're going to do it because I decided first!"

I said, "Well, you are 3 years old and I am 37,  and I am also the Mom. So, while you think that you are making the plans, I'm actually the one to make them, though I'm glad to accommodate yours."

She defied that for a bit longer and then finally said, "OK, Mom, I have a great idea! You can listen to NPR on the way there next time, and we can listen to music on the way back, OK?"

?? 

I said "OK, that's absolutely fine!" :)
