Don't Cry for Her, Argentina

The other day, Mom, Kirienne, and I were riding in the car. We'd been listening to the Evita soundtrack a few days before, and K was trying to remember what it was called so that she could ask me to play it.

At the time we'd been listening to it, I'd told her my best rendition of the facts of Evita's life and rule, namely how they pertained to friends of ours who were able to migrate into Argentina from a neighboring country by special permission Evita granted in response to their letter of request.

In my friends' case, Robert was an Argentinian, and his now-wife Margaret was a Hungarian who'd fled the Nazis with her parents. I'd explained to Kirienne that it was somewhat by the grace of Evita that Margaret ended up in Robert's country.

So, Kirienne stumbled through several attempts to explain to us what music she wanted. Finally, she said, "OK, it's about the woman who's not coming back... the one who opened to Margaret the world of Robert."

Once we finally understood what she was talking about we laughed and marveled at K's memory, conception of the story and its related pieces, and her ability to express it in Shakespearean verse.
