Driving

Today, K and I were driving hither and yon, on our suburban expeditions... to storytime at the Library, to Costco to get some gas, and then off to the Mason Community Center for some exercise.

On our way home, we were sharing snacks and listening to music on the radio. I took out a little container of fishy crackers for K, and I opened some prunes for myself. She must have momentarily forgotten the word for prune, because she started asking for them, in halting speech...

"Mommy, can I have, um, uh... I want one of those... oh... one of those... they're good for your poo poo!" I understood immediately :) As we continued on, we heard a number of songs that were new to us. One of them was by Maroon 5, and it sounded a lot to me like a Police-inspired spinoff of Every Breath You Take. I said, "Wow, this sounds a lot like Sting" (whom she'd been requesting the day before, as we drove from church). "YEAH!" she enthusiastically concurred. "I don't know this one, though," I confessed. I looked at the little readout on the radio to see if I could determine the name of the song. Before I had a chance, K, who'd been listening to the song, said, "I think it's called 'Without You,' Mommy."

Astounded, I read that the title of the song was "Not Going Home Without You." Man, she hit the nail right on the head! BAM!

Yesterday, en route from church, she'd asked for some Triscut crackers. She said, "You know, Triscut crackers... the crackers in the yellow box with the Mommy on it?"

That's m' girl!
